Founded in 2005, Summit Portfolio Advisors (SPA) has already been featured in BusinessWeek, Financial Advisor, NAPFA Advisor, Financial Planning and several other publications (see Articles). To educate investment professionals about this new and conservative equity discipline, in 2006 we spoke at NAPFA's National and Cutting Edge Conferences as well as the Socially Responsible Investors (SRI) in the Rockies conference. In 2007 we began offering a one-hour CFP Board accredited course, which has already been attended by nearly 1000 Investment Advisors and Planners (see CFP Webinar for information and most recent recording).

Collar Investing: A Conservative Way to Invest in Stocks.

Collar Investing was created for investors who wish to invest in the stock market, but with limited risk.

Collar Investing portfolios contain a mix of large, well-known companies, but unlike other investment managers, SPA protects each stock with an equity collar. Before any stock and collar combination is acquired for a client, the following criteria must be met:

• The downside risk in each stock/collar combination is within the client's risk tolerance
• The upside potential for any collared stock is significantly greater than the downside risk
• The net cost for the collar protection is minimal
